What are the

Student Game

Awards?

Background

Mission

The first Student Game Awards was held at NC State University on April 20th, 2024. This was a partnership between three student groups, East Coast Games Society, Esports and Game Design Collective, and Student Game Developer Alliance, with the single mission of giving student game projects the spotlight.

For the first event, we had 29 game submissions across 14 universities spanning the US. We hope to continue to grow those numbers this year in 2025 and continue to give students a platform to be recognized for their incredible work.

While some video game award shows recognize student games, they are often held firmly by a few of the big game development masters' programs. They fail to account for the huge gaps in time, money, and support that student game developers face. This award show gives all students a platform to showcase what they can do, whether they go to a school with a world renown game development program or to a school that has no relation to games.

We are constantly looking to give students a leg up, especially with the volatility the game development industry faces and the struggle of students to find entry level positions. If you have any advice or wish to help, we'd love to hear from you! Please fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page to reach out.
